Tanzania Assemblies of God (TAG) was registered under The Societies Ordinance of 1954 on 21st October, 1981 with Registration Number SO. 6246.
Tanzania Assemblies of God church was birthed as a result of a great revival that happened in AZUSA street, California (USA), at the beginning of 20th century. It started with missionary Paul Deer who came to Tanganyika as a private missionary in 1928 through the Pentecostal Holiness Association (PHA). The very first service was in early 1929 at Igale, in Mbeya Region in the Southern Highland of Tanzania. On 1938 Derr went back to America and the followed year he joined with Assemblies of God Churches and then handed the work that he had started in Tanzania (by then was known as Tanganyika) to the hands of General Council of Assemblies of God Mission. Then, he asked the Council to send a Missionary to the continue nurturing the church while he was on holiday.
At the beginning of the church Missionaries from America and African pastors (Yohana Mpayo and Petros) were the one nurturing the church. The first TAG church was at Igale, Mbalizi District in Mbeya Region. The church was nurturing by such system up to 1967. In 1967, Council of Assemblies of God decided to hand over the church to natives where Pastor Emmanuel Lazaro was appointed as the First Tanzanian Arch Bishop to lead Tanzania Assemblies of God.
The Tanzania Assemblies of God (TAG) exists to worship God in spirit and truth, through telling the world about Jesus and by bringing believers to maturity through worship, ministry, Christian fellowship and giving under the guidance and power of the Holy Spirit. Our TAG church body comprises of various local churches both from main land Tanzania and Zanzibar. As a body of Christ, we are a Spirit-filled church believing in the power and manifestations of the Holy Spirit.
